Description

A delicious fusion of two comfort classics—sloppy joes and grilled cheese—creating an ultra-gooey, crispy sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 8 slices Sliced bread (thick-cut)
  • 8 slices Sliced mozzarella or cheddar
  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • 1 Onion, diced
  • 1 cup Tomato sauce or ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef with diced onion; drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in tomato sauce (or ketchup), Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, and pepper; simmer until thick.
  3. Butter the outsides of the bread slices.
  4. Place cheese on the inside of each slice, spoon sloppy joe mixture over one side, then top with more cheese.
  5. Close sandwiches and grill butter-side down until golden and melty, flipping carefully.
  6. Press lightly for maximum gooeyness.
  7. Slice and serve hot with extra sloppy joe filling if desired.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños to the sloppy joe mixture.
  • Use a mix of cheeses for added flavor.
  • Serve with pickles or chips on the side for a complete meal.
