Ingredients

  • 1/4 teaspoon Red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse basmati rice until water runs clear; drain well.
  2. Bloom saffron in warm broth or water and set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in a saucepan; gently sauté garlic (and onion if using) until fragrant.
  4. Stir in rice and toast lightly for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Pour in saffron liquid and remaining broth; season with salt.
  6. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook until rice is tender and liquid absorbed.
  7. Fluff with a fork, garnish with herbs (and lemon zest if desired), and serve.
