Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour – 1 ½ cups
  • Unsalted butter – ½ cup, softened
  • Sugar – 1 cup
  • Eggs – 2 large
  • Vanilla extract – 1 tbsp
  • Baking powder – 1 ½ tsp
  • Salt – ¼ tsp
  • Milk – ½ cup
  • Butter – 1 cup (softened)
  • Powdered sugar – 3 cups
  • Vanilla extract – 1 tbsp
  • Cream or milk – 2–3 tbsp
  • Sprinkles (pastel, round, multicolor)

Instructions

  1. Mix base batter: Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. Blend wet + dry: Mix in half the dry mix, then the milk, then the rest of the dry mix until smooth.
  4. Fill liners: Divide batter into 12 cupcake liners, ⅔ full.
  5. Bake: Bake 18–20 minutes at 350°F/175°C until centers spring back. Cool completely.
  6. Make buttercream: Beat butter until creamy, add powdered sugar gradually, then vanilla + cream until fluffy.
  7. Frost and decorate: Pipe tall swirls and finish with colorful sprinkles.
