Ingredients
- Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- Heavy cream
- Garlic
- Gruyère or cheddar cheese
- Butter
- Parmesan cheese
- Fresh thyme or rosemary
- Salt & black pepper
- Nutmeg (optional)
- Olive oil or cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F and butter a large baking dish.
- In a saucepan, gently warm cream with garlic, salt, pepper, herbs, and a pinch of nutmeg.
- Layer sliced potatoes evenly in the dish.
- Pour some warm cream over each layer, repeating until potatoes are used.
- Sprinkle Gruyère/cheddar and Parmesan on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 50–55 minutes until potatoes are tender.
- Uncover and bake for 20–25 minutes more until golden and bubbling; rest before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a mix of Gruyère and cheddar cheese.
- Let the dish rest for at least 10 minutes before serving to allow the layers to set.
