Description

Festive vanilla macaron shells filled with creamy buttercream and decorated for the holidays.

Ingredients

  • Almond flour (1 cup, super-fine)
  • Powdered sugar (1 ¾ cups)
  • Egg whites (3 large, room temp)
  • Granulated sugar (¼ cup)
  • Vanilla extract (to taste)
  • Butter (for buttercream)
  • Additional powdered sugar (for filling)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Holiday decorations: piped buttercream trees, candy cane stripes, snowflakes

Instructions

  1. Sift almond flour and powdered sugar together until perfectly fine.
  2. Whip egg whites to soft peaks, then slowly add sugar until glossy stiff peaks form.
  3. Fold dry mixture into meringue (macaronage) until batter flows like thick lava.
  4. Pipe small circles on parchment and tap the tray to release air bubbles.
  5. Rest 30–45 minutes until shells form a dry skin.
  6. Bake at 300°F for 12–15 minutes until feet form. Cool fully.
  7. Fill with vanilla buttercream and decorate tops with festive piped shapes.

Notes

  • Ensure egg whites are at room temperature for best results.
  • Resting the piped macarons is crucial for achieving the perfect shell.
