- 1/2 cup Cocoa powder
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 1 cup Whipped cream or frosting
- 1 cup Maraschino cherries
- 1 cup Sugar
- 3 Eggs
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- 1/2 cup Dark chocolate shavings
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a square baking pan with parchment paper.
- Prepare chocolate sponge batter with cocoa, flour, sugar, eggs, baking powder, and vanilla.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, then cool completely before slicing horizontally into two layers.
- Spread whipped cream or vanilla frosting between layers and on top.
- Add chocolate shavings generously over the frosting.
- Pipe small swirls of whipped cream and top each square with a cherry.
- Chill for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Ensure the sponge is completely cooled before slicing to avoid crumbling.
- For a richer flavor, use high-quality dark chocolate for shavings.
- Can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
